Councilman Zellers On the Road to Recovery

B-Blogger just got this update from Joan on Ed's path to health.

Ed's open heart surgery went well yesterday. He is currently in the ICU at Lancaster General Hospital and doing well. He will stay in the ICU today and then be moved to the cardiac step down unit where the "drill sergeants" will start him on his way to recovery. The plan is for him to be discharged to Lisa's (daughter) home Tuesday or Wednesday where he will stay until his follow up visit with the surgeon and cardiologist. We are anticipating 14-18 days and then we will be going home to continue his recovery and start rehab.

Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers. It is very comforting to know so many people are surrounding us with love and prayers.

Talk About Political Spin

The B-blogger just received a legislative update from our Maryland State Delegate Michael D. Smigel.  He is very proud of being elected to head the Maryland House of Delegates' Tea Party Caucus.  However, what caught my eye was his proud sponsorship of House Bill 9 " which would allow law abiding citizens from Maryland's contiguous  states to carry their concealed weapons in our state if they have a vaild permit from their home State." But here is the "spin": "By not recognizing permits from other states we are losing revenue from tourism and shopping because citizens are unwilling to travel here without their concealed weapons for protection."  Can you believe this statement?  Is Maryland a dangerous state?  Do you really think that people aren't shopping at Peoples because they can't carry their concealed weapon?  I may not be the brightest bulb in the Jewel but I can think of a lot of other ways we can boost tourism and shopping in Maryland.

If building State revenue from tourism and shopping is truly a goal of our delegate, than why didn't he step up to the plate and co-sponsor the bill to allow gay and lesbian couples to marry.  Massachusetts, New York, Iowa and other states are taking in millions from weddings and tourism since they passed this law.

The B-blogger would love to hear your comments as a post-below. Just for the record the B-blogger is not against hunting, in fact I believe it is a necessity to control populations of deer and other wild animals that are multiplying at phenomenal rates and or spreading disease such as Lyme, Rabies, Leptospirosis to name a few.  So what say you Bettertonians?

Oh! Don't forget this coming Monday is not only the start of Passover but the day you must file your tax returns.

Say a Prayer for a Speedy Recovery

With Easter and Passover soon upon us, there will be much focus on family, friends, food and prayer.  Tonight the B- Blogger is asking fellow neighbors, friends and B-Town residents to say a prayer for Councilman Zellers who will undergo cardiac bypass surgery tomorrow morning, Friday April 15th.  Councilman Zellers has been an active and beneficial member of our City Council always bringing rational thought to the table and always having an ear to anyone who wishes to offer thoughts, complaints, and most importantly ideas for improvement.  He is a man of courage, devotion and just a really nice guy, a true friend to us all.  So now its our turn to return the support with prayers for a rapid recovery with minimal pain.  Ed we are here for you and Joan and can't wait to see you back on the scooter and walking Bailee.

I encourage all of our readers to post their best wishes below.

Issues and Activities - Betterton in Bloom

As the Red Buds begin to bloom and the tulips sprout across the yards, many activities are planned. However, before we get to the fun, the B-blogger would like to know how you feel with the latest of decisions made by our Town Council and Mayor. According to the Kent County News, Mayor and Council have decided to leave the Cross atop of the entrance to our community center. The B-blogger has to applaud Councilman Zellers for being the sole member to vote against this decision. The Blogger believes in our great nation and the principle of separation of Church and State. It would seem to me that this decision is a violation of this principle, especially since the community center is the home to our town's legislative body and to the principle that our community center is open to all who wish to partake in its activities.

The Cross of the Precious Blood Catholic Church is indeed part of the Jewel's history and should be placed within our planned historical museum section of the Betterton Community Center but not atop the entrance-way. So what is your opinion?

On a more festive note mark your calendars for May 21st and June 26th as our summer fun begins. On May 21st between 10 AM and 3 PM the American Legion Post will host an "Olde Betterton Post Card Show." For more information contact Larry Crew at 410-348-9144. The B-blogger has his own collection and can't wait to see the plethora of cards I'm missing. Who knows perhaps your home will be front and center on one of these historic memories.

As the heat of summer builds, June 26th will be the perfect time for an "Olde Fashion Ice Cream Social" to be held at the Bettterton Community Center from noon to 3 PM. Personally, I'm a fan of vanilla bean but what is your favorite flavor? Remember this event is a perfect setting to invite friends and relatives to visit the Jewel. It's great for kids as well as Uncle Harry and Aunt Sally as they won't be able to comment about their likes and dislikes in your home as you can have them filling their faces with great ice cream in a totally neutral setting.

It's time to arose your Qi and move that stagnant energy, so please post your thoughts below and let our Summer begin!
