Its Not About Naugthy or Nice but Stranded or Not

While some dreamed of a white Christmas B-Town was blessed with a shade of gray, a wisp of frigid wind and a field full of white geese doing their best to create an illusion of snow. To the Blogger's surprise many residents chose to travel to family and relatives outside the Jewel and leave our wonderful hamlet a bit desolate for those that remained. To top this off many that did leave have been unable to return as they are stranded in locations hit by this weekend's winter storm. The Blogger and family left on Sunday during the height of the storm to travel North to the City of Brotherly Love. While Dr. Mel reports that B-Town was spared any accumulation of white, the Blogger reports that they have 11.8 inches of white throughout Philadelphia as evidenced in the photo above.

City Council members want us to know of a good deed done by our water meter reader, who happened to notice icicles on the inside of a First Avenue home. She immediately contacted Councilman Zellers and with the aid of Karen Russo, the residents were notified of a massive water pipe burst within their home. While there was significant damage done, it could have been much worse if our meter reader had not acted as she did. We should all be grateful to those neighbors and friends who keep an eye out for the little clues that can catch a big problem. A word to the wise is that if you will be leaving your home, especially during these winter months, shut off your water or at least the valves that go to sinks and toilets as well as ask a neighbor to keep an eye open.

So what's your Christmas story and or adventure? Lets hear about it with a post below.

How fortunate we are to have so little snow from the storm on the 26th. But the wind is still with us. The snowfall left us with not enough to plow, but some drifts. Charlie's Trash removal could not make it to Betterton today due to heavy drifts in the Crumpton area. He will be around on Tuesday, Dec. 28 - and promises to collect what has blown around.
    Good holiday happenings around Betterton:
Dec. 11, The Betterton Youth Group did a Christmas Carol ride around town. 25 of the Youth Group members and their leaders, Karen and Patti, made the rounds of the town to provide wonderful carols for residents. The hay ride was provided by Kip and Monica Matthews.
On Dec. 18, the party at the Betterton Legion was wonderful. Santa, our own jolly soul, gave a gift to each and every child attending. He was able to fit that into his busy schedule with the help of the elves from the Ladies of the Legion. The Kent County High School jazz band was there to add to the festivities. The Legion elves also provided Breakfast with Santa on Dec. 19. The holiday was merry because these elves provided for this very special time. Thank you!
The Still Pond-Betterton Methodist Churches prepared 12 holiday boxes for families, identified by Social Services, filled with food, gifts, and warm clothing.
Dec. 27 was the move from the former Town Office to the new space. The move went very smoothly due to Annette's superior organizational skills (color coding and maps) and with the able help of Bob Pyfer, Don Sutton, John Nicholson, Nick Coppage, and Kip Matthews. Our first meeting in the new space will be on January 11 at 7:00 pm. The December 28 meeting will be held at the 3rd Ave. building - without the table.
Thank you to all who work to make Betterton a special place to live. May you new year be filled with the warmth of family and friends.
